Before the business and legal issues of the estate can be pursued, it will be necessary to obtain certified copies of the death certificate. You can order them from the Funeral Director or directly from the Registrar of Vital Statistics in your area. It is always better to order a few more than what you think you will need. Most agencies will only accept certified death certificates and not photocopies. For issues within Canada, a certified original Funeral Director's Proof of Death Certificate will suffice. The J. Scott Early Funeral Home Inc. will supply its client families with as many of these as necessary on an individual basis. Occaisonally, for matters outside of Canada, you may require a Certified Copy of the Medical Certificate of Death. This form must be obtained through the Registrar General's Office for a fee of $20 per certificate. Your funeral director will be able to supply you with the appropriate application form.
