Trusted Funeral Plans
Traditionally, funeral homes have placed their clients' prepaid funds into trust with a local bank or financial institution. This remains a very popular option. With a trust, your money is held in your own name (or the name of the person for whom the funeral is intended) and will earn interest. The interest is used at the time of death to offset any rise in cost. The funeral will not cost your family any more than what you paid for it originally. If at the time of death there is money left over (ie: the interest was greater than the rate of inflation) then the excess funds will be returned in full to the estate. You may choose to pay your funeral in full or we can work out a payment schedule and accept post dated cheques from you.
In recent years, insurance companies have begun to offer funeral plans as well. At J. Scott Early Funeral Home we work with Fortis Benefits Insurance Company. There are of course different benefits to funding your prepaid funeral through insurance, and paying monthly premiums. One of the unique ones that we are able to offer through Fortis is the Child Rider, providing coverage for a purchaser's children, grandchildren or great grandchildren should an accidental death occur. This option is available when you pay the cost of the funeral in full, and don't opt for monthly premiums.
Obviously there are too many options and alternatives to go into detail on this page. We strive to make the plan that will best suit an individual's own needs. For more information, or a quotation tailored just for you, please feel free to contact us by telephone or email.
